Government employees are eagerly waiting for the news of salary hike just before the festive season. A recent report, suggested on October 4 that the Union government may announce a hike in dearness allowance (DA) to provide relief to central employees and pensioners.












The decision to increase the dearness allowance is expected to be approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This likely announcement will serve as a welcome gift to central employees and pensioners ahead of Navratri.

Central employees and pensioners are waiting for a hike in dearness allowance from July. According to expectations, the government may increase the dearness allowance to 45% from the current 42%. If approved, dearness allowance and arrears from July to September will be included in October salary.

With the festive season of Navratri starting on October 15 and Dussehra coming up on October 24, the announcement of DA hike and arrears would be a timely and much appreciated gift. This decision will benefit a significant number of 4.7 lakh employees and 6.8 lakh pensioners with relief from the burden of rising inflation.

Given that retail inflation in the country hit a 15-month high in July, the government is expected to increase the dearness allowance (DA) by 3 percent, taking it to 45 percent from 42 percent. , which will be effective from July 1, 2023. .












It may be noted that dearness allowance for Central Government employees and pensioners is calculated on the basis of the latest Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), which is published monthly by the Labor Bureau.
