The government today announced an increase in subsidy for the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjala Yojana.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur gave this information during a media briefing. Under the scheme, LPG cylinder subsidy has been increased from Rs.200 to Rs.300.

In September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a Union Cabinet meeting that decided to provide an additional 7.5 lakh LPG connections to women through the Ujola scheme. The expansion will be implemented over the next three years and is expected to cost Rs 1,650 crore.

Under the existing Ujjwala 2.0 programme, beneficiaries will continue to get the first refill and a stove free.

Moreover, a month ago, the Union Cabinet had reduced LPG cylinder prices by Rs 200. In Delhi, this brought down the price of a 14.2 kg cylinder from Rs 1,103 to Rs 903.

Ujwala households also get a targeted subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder, which will continue. Consequently, the effective price for Ujola beneficiaries in Delhi will be Rs 703 per cylinder after this reduction.

It is important to note that there are more than 31 crore domestic LPG consumers, of which 9.6 crore are Ajula beneficiaries.
