The ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute at Karnal recently organized a Rabi Kisan Mela at Karuntha village in Rohtak district.
The function was inaugurated by Haryana Water Resources Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Satbir Singh Kadian. Dr. Kadian encouraged farmers to adopt smart farming practices, including the use of smart seeds and technologies, especially in view of changing climatic conditions.
He also urged the young farmers to actively participate in agriculture by combining their education with traditional knowledge and modern agricultural techniques.
Dr Kadian stressed the importance of diversifying agricultural activities by including vegetable cultivation with traditional crop production to meet the growing food needs. He emphasized the importance of soil health cards to preserve soil and water resources for future generations.
Furthermore, he encouraged the farmers of the region to focus on related sectors like horticulture, dairy farming, fisheries and natural farming to get better returns.
Dr. Satbir Singh Kadian appreciated the efforts of CSSRI in promoting crop production through salt tolerant varieties, soil salinity and drainage management and agroforestry.
ICAR-CSSRI Director Dr RK Yadav appreciated the Institute’s initiatives in reclamation of salt-affected lands, which have resulted in substantial crop production, enabling farmers to Economically benefited.
He stressed the importance of soil and water conservation and utilization of poor quality water for crop production. He also highlighted the institute’s technological innovations that help increase farmers’ income.
During Kisan Goshthi, scientists from the institute shared information about the latest salt-tolerant varieties of crops like wheat, mustard, gram and pulses, which have shown increased yield in salt-affected and waterlogged saline areas. What is it.
