Union Minister for AYUSH, Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal marked a major milestone in the Ayurvedic healthcare sector by inaugurating a state-of-the-art 50-bed Ayurvedic Hospital at Sriram Chapuri in Majuli, Assam. The inaugural function was attended by dignitaries and healthcare enthusiasts who were keen to witness the advancements in AYUSH healthcare within the state.












The newly unveiled hospital represents a major step towards expanding the AYUSH healthcare system in the region. With its comprehensive facilities and services, the hospital is poised to make a significant impact on healthcare delivery and access in the region. One of the main features of the hospital is its specialized Outpatient Department (OPD) services, which cater to various medical disciplines. These include Shalia (General Surgery), Prastvati Tantra and Stri Roga or PTSR (Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Panchakarma, and Kyachaktsa (General Medicine).

The hospital also has modern facilities such as a fully equipped laboratory, Panchakarma and Ksharasutra therapy setup, yoga unit, an anorectal clinic, infertility clinic, a geriatrics and rejuvenation clinic, a rheumatology clinic, lifestyle diseases clinic, And another cosmetic clinic. In the OPD section alone, the hospital can accommodate up to 50 patients at a time, ensuring efficient and timely healthcare services.












During his inaugural address, Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized the potential of Majuli as a focal point for AYUSH healthcare in the region. Highlighting the region’s rich flora and heritage, he emphasized that Majuli has a unique potential to become a healthcare hub. The newly inaugurated Ayurvedic Hospital, providing essential health services to local residents, is expected to play a major role in transforming Majuli into a prominent Ayush center, the ‘Swastha Bharat’ envisioned by the Prime Minister. Besides inaugurating the Sriram Chapuri Ayurvedic Hospital, Sarbananda Sonowal announced ambitious plans to further strengthen the AYUSH healthcare infrastructure in Assam. Six new AYUSH hospitals are in the pipeline, with four 50-bed hospitals to be set up in Kaliabor, Morigaon, Kokrajhar, and Buxa. Additionally, a 30-bed hospital has been earmarked for Defoe, and a 10-bed hospital will be set up in Bajri. These hospitals are expected to provide accessible and specialized healthcare services to the residents of these areas.












Additionally, the Union AYUSH Minister confirmed the functioning of 289 AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers (AHWC) in the state, with another 200 AHWCs planned for Assam in the near future. To further increase access to healthcare, Sonowal also announced the establishment of 100 AYUSH dispensaries in all districts of Assam.

With the Union Minister’s ambitious plans for the region, Assam is poised to become a hub for holistic and Ayurvedic healthcare, which will benefit the health and well-being of its residents.
