An important seminar titled Sustainable aquaculture: India’s potential to become a global leader To be held on 25 September 2023 in New Delhi. Prashotham Rupala, The Ministry of Fisheries, invited as the chief guest, will launch SISTA360 – a first-of-its-kind digital platform for aquaculture solutions. NK Premachandran, Member of Assemblyand the special guest of the event will deliver the keynote address.
India’s aquaculture sector has witnessed a remarkable transformation over the past decade, driven by visionary leadership and a steadfast commitment to sustainability. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a second ‘blue revolution’ in 2014 triggered a wave of policy reforms and prioritized the development of the sector. Notable initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and the Coastal Aquaculture Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2023 represent important milestones in this journey.

Seaweed farming and development of value-added products will also be an important focus of the seminar. These innovations hold promise not only for India’s coastal and marine ecosystems but also for the country’s agricultural sector.
The combination of industry and academia has led to new domesticated breeds, species diversity, and environmentally responsible practices such as nutrient recycling.
